The objective of this agreement is to improve the profile of members of emergency services so, in case of assistance within wind turbines it can be carried out under necessary safety conditions and performed as quickly as possible. In order to achieve this, training programmes are provided by the Health and Safety Department of EROM so member of the Emergency Agency of Navarra may know wind farms and get used to its conditions (working spaces within wind turbines and usual dimensions), risks and protocols in case of accessing to them.

During this training programme, two groups of 15 delegates of the Emergency Agency were performed at the EROM´s Training Centre, located in Tafalla (Navarra). This training centre is certified for the provision of safety training under the GWO´s standard (Global Wind Organization). A 16 hours-theoretical and practical training allowed members of the Emergency Agency to get used to works at heights equipment, as well as to perform practices on works at heights protocols, emergency evacuations, rescue of injured technicians within wind turbine´s blades and hubs.

This collaboration was signed by both Parties in 2015, being aware of risks involved within the wind industry maintenance-activities to which emergency services of the Foral Community of Navarra must face in case of an assistance.

The rating system of audits performed by AUDELCO allows, along the identification of the compliance of legal requirements, comparing organizations by the development of certain common practices. In this framework, it is important to note that all EROM´s audited aspects obtained a score between 8 and 10. Most significantly, the audited training requirement received the maximum score of 10 points.

During this audit, performed in November of 2016, any Non Conformity was detected nor observations. Safety training, under the GWO standard, of technicians at EROM´s Training Centre as well as incidents investigations, the Integrated Management System, Emergency Protocols and the specific training of technicians were key strengths of the audited system.

This state of affairs indicates the high integration of prevention across the hierarchical structure of the organization, the strength of its management system and processes carried out on the operative, and the high commitment of all EROM´s employees for the compliance of the objective of combating occupational accidents.

Sonsoles describes this volunteer as a unique and worthy experience from which she has learned and enjoyed the culture and traditions of the second country of South America with worse electrical coverage. Less than the 20% of the rural population (which means the 85% of the population) has access to electrical services. The Cajamarca Department has the lowest electrification index of Peru. Half of its population lives in extreme poverty and the energy production is mainly based on fossil fuels. The aim of this volunteer is to improve the livehood of these citizens, as well as to decrease GHG emissions due to energy.
